The challenge revolving around the safe disposal of both human and non-human solid waste has been cited as the key reason behind the frequent occurrence of waterborne diseases in Somalia. Cognizant of this problem, JCC is committed to increasing access to both household and communal solid waste disposal facilities. Towards this, JCC actively encourages and supports households and communities to construct solid waste disposal facilities such as latrines and communal dumpsites. For communal solid waste disposal facilities such as in schools, mosques, markets and health centres, gender segregation is a key defining point of the effectiveness of solid waste disposal facilities and towards this JCC actively ensures that at communal locations, the solid waste disposal facilities constructed are gender segregated and are equipped with hand washing facilities.
